Final Meeting of Federation April 2013

A group of Whanganui Sisters travelled to Perthville near Bathurst NSW for the final meeting of the Australia New Zealand Federation of the Sisters of St Joseph.  The meeting, held on 15th April, brought together the Goulburn, Whanganui, Perthville and Lochinvar leadership teams for the last time.

In 2012 the Tasmanian Congregation was farewelled from the Federation after fusing with Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.   The Goulburn Congregation had celebrated their fusion with the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in March 2013, and the Whanganui Sisters will do the same on 24th August 2013.

Both the Goulburn and Whanganui Congregations were gifted with a beautiful  hand painted piece of silk each.  Despite the deeply felt thank yous and farewells, the groups will continue to keep contact under the wide umbrella of Sisters of St Joseph.

The following day April 16th, Sisters from various parts of Australia and New Zealand who had been part of the Federation gathered in Perthville Chapel.

The  Ritual  Celebration was in gratitude for 46 years of Federation, and used the theme ‘I am the Vine, you are the branches’.  The first part brought together either in person or by way of videocam, many people and events for which to offer thanks.

Before morning tea, time was given for personal reflection before moving on to the second part of the liturgy.  This used symbols to highlight the call to be Josephite, the founders, the various Foundations and Sisters, the mission of service, our interconnectedness, and our many friendships.

Sisters all gathered for a delicious mid-day meal prepared by the Perthville staff, and after much conversation and many sad farewells, most of the Sisters moved off to travel back to their homes.
