Final Attendance February 2013

This year’s annual meeting of the Mixed Commission of NZ Bishops and the Leaders of Congregations in Aotearoa New Zealand(CLCANZ ) was to be the last for the Sisters of St Joseph Whanganui.  As a result of a decision taken at their Chapter Hui in October 2012, the Congregation  requested fusion with the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, and that request was warmly and positively agreed to.  At present the Sisters are awaiting approval from Rome for this fusion, which hopefully will take place this coming year.

As part of the final meeting at the CLANZ Conference, a presentation was made showing the early history of the initial separation of the young Josephite Congregation in Australia, and subsequent moves towards unity.  These moves have taken place for many of the almost 140 years of the Josephite Congregations. The presentation was well received by all, as many other Congregations of Religious Women and Men are also re-structuring in various ways.

Leadership Teams of the both the New Zealand Province of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and the Whanganui Josephites attended the gathering.  As shown in the photograph they are Sisters Colleen Woodcock, Noelene Landrigan (in front), Jill McLoughlin, Colleen Keeble, Catherine Shelton, Lyndall Brown, Meg Hills, Anne Burke.
