Mary MacKillop Walk July 2011
On a very dismal winter day, the Nazareth Chapel was bright and warming for the blessing and opening of the Mary MacKillop Walkway.
This pathway leads past roses which are similar to the Australian Mary MacKillop rose, grape vines, wildflowers, to the Main garden planted with Australian native plants. Featured are waratahs, grevilleas, leucodendrons, and kangaroo paws, with grasses and creepers as well. In the front of the garden is a wooden board with the words of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop: “Gratitude is the memory of the heart.”
The prayer service attended by many of the local Sisters with the residents, was in honour of St Mary MacKillop, and during the service, Sr Justin unveiled the wooden carved board.
Plants in the garden had been procured with the help of a donation from the family of a former resident. After the time in the Chapel, a small group went out to the garden to see the waratah planted, and the notice board was soon put into place.
Afternoon tea in the TV lounge was shared by all.
