Nazareth Rest Home News
Chinese Heritage June 2010
Nazareth residents and staff once again marked the season of Matariki by focusing on our early settlers – this year the Chinese.
Many residents and staff dressed up in Chinese costumes. The morning programme began with games based on activities of early Chinese families such as gold-panning, market-gardening and laundry. To a backdrop of Chinese music, all shared a cup of green tea and then paraded down to the dining room in dragon formation, resplendent with a dragon’s head. Lunch was, of course, Chinese food.
The dragon’s head was ably ‘worn’ by volunteers, although the residents had played a large part in preparing lanterns and small dragons. Most wore Chinese horoscopes on the day.
